The Epistle of Paul The Book of Romans series: Learning to be rooted and established in The Cross of Christ

The Foundation of Faith

Romans 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

As Paul usually begins his letters giving God thanks through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, expressing his thankfulness for the grace of God to all those who read his letters.

I can truly appreciate the letters that Paul wrote to the church at Rome as well as many of his other letters that we have in the 66 Canon that we read in God's Word today.

In this verse, Paul outlines what comes first and what will come next, teaching those who reads his letters thoroughly, faith must come through the way of the Cross.

When Paul uses the word “first” we know that gives God glory above all through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in all that He has endured and paid for on the Cross at Calvary.

We too should give thanks to the Lord God, creator of Heaven and earth, for giving us His Son and spared no expense that we would have a way back to Him.

We must continue to remember we walk by faith and not by sight, no person can build a foundation on uneven soil because the soil must be fertile for fruit to grow.

If a person does not believe or walk by the Cross of Christ and has their focus on things other than the Cross of Christ, can a person truly say they're walking on a firm foundation?

Jimmy Swaggart says in his Romans Bible Commentary;

“It is interesting that their faith was the Crown jewel or their walk with God.

Why?

Faith is the foundation on which all stands and of course we speak of faith in Christ and what Christ has done for us at the Cross.

Whatever its position whether weak or strong so is everything else respecting believer.

Simple faith in God means to trust Him and to have reliance on Him.

That comes in three directions:

1. We must trust Him for Salvation

2. We must trust Him for leading and guidance by the Holy Spirit in all we do

3. We must trust Him to meet our needs and to protect us."

Everything we need past, present, and future has been paid for by Jesus on the Cross of Calvary and when Jesus said that it is finished it means just that it is finished.

What a blessing it is to receive the gift of Salvation and like Paul I thank the Lord for all who have received the gift that was presented to you by the way of the Cross.

I pray that your faith be strengthened and the grace of God be with you all through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus is the firm foundation that we stand on, by faith in what He has done at the Cross!
