God's wrath on the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness
The expression “hold the truth in righteousness” does not mean that the men mentioned here actually possessed the truth but simply failed to put it into practice.
The word “hold” in the Greek is κατέχω katéchō, kat-ekh'-o and it means: to hold down (fast), in various applications (literally or figuratively):—have, hold (fast), keep (in memory), let, × make toward, possess, retain, seize on, stay, take, withhold.
Although the verb kat-ekh'-o is translated here as "hold" but it is better translated in this context “hold back or restrain” this use of the word is also found in 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7 where kat-ekh'-o is translated “withholdeth” and “letteth,” as Paul tell us here these ungodly men attempt to restrain the truth through unrighteousness.
It is very sad that there are those in the church presently today that are using psychology and otherworldly methods to obtain righteousness.
John 14:6 says; "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Anything outside Jesus and Him Crucified is not of God and if it's not of God then it is sin.
Jesus also says in John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Everything that we will ever need has been provided for us at the Cross of Calvary, in times past God winked at the ignorance of mankind but now, He commands all to repent and that only comes by the Cross.
In that appointed day when Jesus comes back to judge the world, no one could say that he was not given the opportunity to repent from ungodliness and unrighteousness and come to the Cross.
As Paul tells us here that the wrath of God will come upon those who continue to walk in a ungodly life and do the works of unrighteousness as well as ignore the true Word of God which is Jesus and Him Crucified.
All true Righteous things of God past, present, and future can only be obtained through the Cross of Christ, there is no other way that anyone can be saved nor are able to walk in righteousness except through Jesus and what He has done at the Cross.
To bring any other method into the Church other than what Jesus has done at the Cross of Calvary is against God's Will and is of the flesh.
We must remember to not be partakers of those who walk by the flesh because the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience but true righteousness comes by faith in Jesus and in Him only.
If mankind wants to please God he must come by the way of the Cross of Christ by faith and there for walk in Him, taking up their cross each and everyday!
There is no other way that anyone can receive anything from God except it come through Jesus and His finished Work on the Cross!
